| Februaryl 1998 Meeting
It's been almost 3 months since our last meeting. Unfortunately, I have been extremely busy with an un-usual amount of travelling engagement. I am glad to see many of you had email me indicating your continue interest in when the next meeting will be. Well, your wait is over ... Mr. Bradley MacDonald of Liquor Distribution Branch will be sharing with us some of his insights in creating a reusable and OOP development framework within Delphi. Here is a short description of his presentation: Form Inheritance is a very useful feature of Delphi. It is possible to make use of this feature to create reusable standard programs in Delphi. Bradley MacDonald, of the Liquor Distribution Branch, will show one possible way of doing this. He will demonstrate a "BaseForm" that can be used to very quickly create table maintenance programs that are full featured (List, Add, Edit, Delete, View), with no lines of code required. After the brief demo there will be a discussion of the techniques used and how you could use them in your development work. None of this is complicated, just applying form inheritance and using standard Delphi objects. In addition, one of my many recent trips was a visit to Borland HQ in Scotts Valley. I attended the Worldwide SE Training Conference of which all the Borland core product lines were presented with sneak preview of future releases coming in the next 2 quarters. Let's just say it will be an exciting summer in 98!!!
